High Speed 1 Ltd signs knowledge sharing Memorandum of Understanding with Etihad Rail

High Speed 1 Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network, to provide knowledge, expertise, and best practice in supporting the development of freight and passenger rail services in the UAE.

The MoU comes as part of Etihad Rail’s efforts for developing railway services in the UAE, through the UAE National Railways Programme, which aims to establish an integrated system for transporting goods and passengers across the UAE. The MoU centres on managing technical developments, such as the planning, design, development, and commissioning of railways.

The MoU was signed by His Excellency Eng. Shadi Malak, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Rail, and Dyan Crowther, Chief Executive Officer of HS1, during the second day of Middle East Rail 2022, which was hosted by Etihad Rail.

Etihad Rail hosted the 16th edition of Middle East Rail, the largest transport event in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, which was held in Abu Dhabi for the first time. The event brought together leaders across transport, forward-thinking senior executives, key decision-makers, and government representatives to discuss key issues in the global railway and transportation sector. Etihad Rail also signed two additional MoUs with Renfe, Spain’s national railway operator, and GB Railfreight, the British rail freight company.

Dyan Crowther, CEO of HS1 Ltd, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Etihad Rail to help accelerate their work in developing and operating the UAE’s national railway network. As the UK’s first high-speed rail line, we have extensive knowledge of operating a successful railway, and we look forward to sharing our expertise and knowledge with Etihad Rail.”
